Below are brief reports and scores from Round 4 of the league championship.

West Devon
Another good day on the bench. Just seven of us competing for today’s bragging rights and luckily I came out on top!! Closely followed by Paul Read just two points behind.
Trev and Mr Colin Yeo were battling each other for third spot. Paul Gould got a nugget for best card 245.
Unfortunately Sean Quigley’s FX was chucking pellets everywhere (I can see a new gun on the horizon).
Sue Gould had a steady day and finished second from bottom.
All very enjoyable and looking forward to next time.
Dartmoor Marksmen
Another excellent turnout for Dartmoor’s round 5 – fifteen of us fought an extremely closely contested match, with a mere ten points eventually separating the top eight shooters.
Simon Houseman set the bar high during the first detail of the day with a personal best card of 249. Hot on his heels were Mike, Rob, and Allen with 248’s. Rob then produced his own personal best card of 249 in the second detail, before going on to win the match with yet another PB – 742:30x.
It proved to be the perfect day for smashing personal best scores – Simon achieving 733:21, and Sally Smith managing to pull a 725:21x out of the bag.
These were all very commendable scores in what was a relatively light, but very twitchy breeze. Most of us were experiencing incomprehensible high or low shots – and the conditions which produce these are not reliably indicated by the wind flags.
Several sophisticated rest systems have been acquired by our club members in recent months – both co-axial and micro adjustable types. These have produced some interesting results, in that while they have unquestionably enhanced some peoples scores, others have remained unimpressed – to the point of quickly selling them on and reverting to a more basic arrangement, such as a pair of sandbags, or one of the club’s Caldwell models. Any change of equipment will need sufficient time to become fully comfortable with it, but if after giving it a fair trial, no improvement is evident, then it’s probably best to go back to what feels intuitive.
