Dartmoor benchrest round 2.
Sixteen of us struggled to overcome some incredibly difficult, and typically Dartmoor, wind conditions today, the flags were constantly rotating from left to right, the propellers either spinning flat out or at a complete standstill, and the regular strong gusts were causing pellets to strike both high and low – which made calculating the correct degree of hold off even more of a dilemma. Rob M evidently detected some sort of pattern amid all this chaos, his keen observational skills rewarding him with both the day’s best card (248) and the highest overall score of 734:21x.Alistair secured second place with his XTi50 – the recent change of rifle appears to be paying off handsomely for him. Andy achieved the third place – while shooting his Daystate off a pair of plain sandbags, the most basic arrangement in use today. The other competitors used 3 coaxial (joystick) rests, 8 micro adjustable (windage and elevation) types, and 4 basic up/down pedestals. The usually methodical and reliable Dave Taylor made the basic benchrest neophyte’s error – failing to check that all 25 scoring diagrams had been shot. One hadn’t, costing him a potential 10 points. But with a further seven rounds to go there will be ample opportunity to recover from those inevitable mistakes, or from that exasperating series of cards where the marking gauge seems to have really got it in for you – with every fifth shot being ‘just out’.

Round two of the summer BR league today and a excellent turnout from the members, lovely to have it dry but just enough breeze to make it challenging.
Top overall score and best card goes to Liam Vickery with 737 best card 248 shooting his Redwolf. Second was Paul Read 733 with his newly acquired HFT 500 in full BR stock (nice) I managed third with 729 and back with the FTP. Got to give Sue Gould a mention yet another pb 244 and a overall tally of 722 well done.
