Seven travelled up from West Devon to join nine Dartmoor members in shooting round two of our winter series. Weather wise it was bitterly cold with fairly light breezes which constantly switched from right to left. The earlier details generally produced slightly higher scores, although Alistair Teague pulled a wonderful 249:12x out of the hat during one of the last – this earned him both best card of the day and the best overall score of 738:27x.
Scores ranged from low 230’s to high 240’s, reflecting the difficulty in consistently reading the wind strength and direction. Mike Fosters homemade flags were reacting beautifully to light breezes – much better than our club ones. The propellers fitted to his were regularly spinning while ours rarely stirred. Not that any of the flags were agreeing with one another most of the time – I chose to rely upon a single piece of tail ribbon halfway down the range, too much conflicting information can often be confusing.
The ‘X’ counts were generally low today, although the exception – 39x’s achieved with Mikes Thomas rifle suggests that he has finally found a pellet capable of confirming its inherently superb accuracy.
Dartmoor took the honours, but the Pyworthies are confidently predicting a victory in the next round.

Lovely day out yesterday with the West Devon bunch away at Dartmoor marksmen for round two of the winter challenge.
Well done to Alistair Teague top score and best card with a excellent 249 on his third card to get the last minute win, pushing the two Paul’s into second and third place ( Paul Salmon and Paul Read)
Dartmoor came out top again overall but I got a sneaky feeling our day is coming soon with Paul Read, Alastair Muir and Matthew Norwell all putting in some great scores and Alistair had a PB of 246 on his debut winter challenge
