Below are the results and write ups from Dartmoor, West Devon and Purbeck rounds of the BR League.
Dartmoor.
Dartmoor BR – round 8.
Our penultimate round saw thirteen Dartmoor members joined by three visitors from the Glevum club – Tom Jacobs, Justin Tricky, and Mike Tucker.
The day started out with a fairly gentle breeze at 9.00 which increased steadily throughout the morning. These conditions made careful and regular wind observations essential, and those who did pay attention were rewarded appropriately. Both Rob and Dave achieved their first ever 250’s, these two exceptional cards boosting their overall scores to give them first and second places in this round. Dartmoor’s standard of shooting continues to improve steadily – so I’m confident that more will be joining the small and very exclusive ‘250 club’ before too long.
The top score of the day was actually recorded by Tom Jacobs. He has just bought a Daystate Red Wolf and was experimenting with a very different technique. Rather than employing the usual method of carefully using the full 20 minutes to release shots only when the conditions were near identical, he made use of the rifle’s magazine to rattle off four or five shots, as fast as possible, whenever the chosen condition presented itself for a few seconds. Many American full bore BR shooters employ this technique – they are referred to as ‘runners’ as opposed to ‘pickers’ – those who shoot slowly and deliberately while constantly monitoring the flags. It will be interesting to see if this method is adopted by others.
We also held our third 50 metre shoot, the more modest winds enabling slightly better results – a 226:3x took the cash prize this time.

You are very welcome to arrange a visit to Dartmoor, where you can inspect our facilities, learn about suitable equipment, technique, and rules, before shooting a couple of cards – and finding out that it really isn’t quite as easy as it looks!

West Devon
Only six braved the wind to compete in our final BR round this morning ( not sure what happened to everyone else).
First round started well only dropping 12 point’s on bench one and only 9 points separating first and last place .
Round two and bench two, and I improved with a 240 , everything is going well but father Graham has cought me up with a brilliant 243. We’re both 6 ahead of the nearest competitor with 478 apiece . Everything to play for in the final round!!
Then the bleddy wheels came off 
. Stuck out on bench three in the ever increasing wind (storm Nigel non the less ). I just couldn’t get any consistency and twice my pellets were nearly blown completely out of the diagram!! My only hope was that father Graham was also having difficulties, and he was.

My only hope was that father Graham was also having difficulties, and he was.But sat quietly on bench one (the easy bench) steady eddy Paul Read was shot by shot putting in the best card of the day an excellent 247 which not only gave him best card but also top overall score 719 18x well and truly weeing on both mine and Graham’s bonfire’s.
Overall, considering the poor weather there was some really good shooting and surprisingly consistent .
I even think Sean Quigley went home happy (ISH) knowing that he wasn’t last (3rd in fact).
