DARTMOOR BR Round 8 - 3.10.26.
The weather conditions were near perfect for our penultimate round, light switchy breezes, but with regular lulls - which rewarded the more patient shooters. Those who chose to shoot in spite of the wind needed to be extremely confident in applying the correct degree of compensation, as a poor judgement easily resulted in a 7 or 8. I was expecting to see one or two 250's today, but Neville's excellent 249:14x was the best single card - closely followed by 7x 248's.
The overall results were incredibly tight today, with eight of the sixteen competitors scoring between 736 and 740. Mike Smith continued his winning ways - recording his sixth 100% from eight rounds! Meanwhile Mark Cannarella continues to make steady progress, his 737:25x deservedly earning him 5th place today.
Despite the relatively light breezes the benchrest gremlins were very much in evidence, several of us experienced inexplicable fliers - I had one that found its way out into the 7 ring - and I genuinely have no idea how it got there. Bad pellet, or undetected air current? - just another example of BR's innumerable and frustrating curveballs.
